Its concert members include an orchestra of folklore instruments, a folklore choir and children and youth dance groups. The ensemble together with its preparatory groups numbers over 200 children and teenagers.
Gabrovche’s rich
repertoire, which is built up on songs, dances and orchestra performances
from all ethnographic regions in Bulgaria and presented with their
characteristic costumes, can satisfy every hard to please audience. During its 29-year history, “Gabrovche” has had over 670 performances, 110 of which abroad, and over 300 000 spectators. The ensemble is award- winner in the V, VI, VII National Festival for Amateur Art Activities. It has had concerts in Byelorussia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Serbia, Germany, France, Greece, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands and Croatia. “Gabrovche” has participated in international festivals such as “Thessaloniki – Cultural Capital of Europe 1998”, Greece and “Green World” Harkov, Ukraine 1999 where it won award for outstanding stage performance. In 2001 it won the second place award in the International Music Festival in Cantonigros, Spain, and the following 2002 it was cheering with the first place award in the same festival.
In 2004 “Gabrovche” won the title “C.I.O.F.F. Representative” which is an international organization of folklore festivals. The choir is conducted by Rumelia Aleksieva, and Delyan Hristov is orchestra conductor. Head director and choreographer is Lachezar Zahariev who is award-winner in the V, VI, VII National Festival for Amateur Art Activities. He was awarded the Golden Lyre by the Union of Music and Dance People in Bulgaria and the honourary sign of the city of Gabrovo. The ensemble’s concert performance can be up to 60-70 minutes max depending on the host-party’s demands.
