FAMAGUSTA MUNICIPALITY FOLKDANCE GROUP
The group has been established in 1984 and awarded many prizes both in and outside of the country. It is one of the biggest folk dance group in North Cyprus.
Famagusta Municipality Folkdance Group is the member of Council International Dance(CID)-UNESCO.
All adult members of the group are university students. Currently there are 350 members (children - young - adult) of the group including 20 musicians.
All traditional dances of North Cyprus reflect the sincerely and happiness of people. In the past, people would like to demonstrate their love and affection to each other while working especially in the fields. There is a great cooperation between men and women, and when they have a break for rest they start to dance and sing a song together. In this 12 minutes show, both male and females dance together to reflect the power of humanity in order to reach the happiness. The skills of male dancers through the end of the show especially with sickles (tools that men use during the harvest time) are
being exhibited to attract the attention of females. While working in the
fields, great loves are always born between men and women and they try to do
their best to prove that they are skillful, responsible and hardworking.
Most of the time they got married and this marriage always supported by
their friends. In short, people from outside can easily observe happiness,
love and discipline in life in terms of responsibility. Aim of The Group: The most fundamental aim of the group is; to represent the Cyprus in international area and to make young people aware of the culture and the tradition that comes from old and strong background. *Further information can easily be provided upon your request. The group can performance folkdance shows between 5-90 minutes.
